Dear All,
After two and a half years of sterling service, Peter Collett has indicated that he will be leaving SCOTS PGC College to travel and work in the UK for at least 12 months. Much as we are sorry to see him leave, this creates a permanent vacancy for a teacher of Agriculture and Science in years 8-12, from the beginning of semester 2, 2008.If you are at all interested in this possibility, can I encourage you to check out the College website - http://www.scotspgc.qld.edu.au/cms/index.php . In particular, look at the Curriculum and Co-curricular pages, where you will find some details on the agriculture programme. You will see that we have strong practical emphasis on cattle (Angus stud and led steers), sheep (Texel stud and prime lambs) and horses (equestrian program employs full-time coach and manager).
The school itself is a P-12 coeducational boarding and day school, located on the banks of the Condamine River. Being 90 years old, it is steeped in tradition. We currently have approximately 460 students, from all mainland states in Australia as well as a number of international students. The agriculture students tend to mostly come from rural backgrounds, and many see that their future lies in employment in an agricultural industry.
I know that for those of you in the state system, a move into the independent sector can seem like a fairly major shift. Can I assure you that, after 16 years with EQ and now 10 years at SCOTS, my experience has been that I work harder at SCOTS but find the work much more enjoyable and fulfilling. Employment conditions are comparable - it is mostly the kids that make the difference.
Warwick is a lovely town to live in, with all the facilities that you would expect in a town of around 20,000 people. Housing is affordable and traffic jams are rare! Our experience has been that it is a great place to bring up your children (and the College offers generous fee concessions for staff children). If you would like to know any more, I would welcome your enquiries.
Best wishes,
Nigel Grant - Director of Learning
